The window
Our frames are Canadian-made vinyl, built for Scarborough winters. Vinyl won’t rot, never needs paint and doesn’t swell shut in a wet spring like old wood sashes.
Most of the comfort comes from the glass. Every sealed unit has a Low-E 272 coating and argon gas. The coating reflects heat back where it came from, so furnace heat stays in during January and sun heat stays out in July. Argon slows heat moving across the gap. The glass stops feeling cold, and the draft by the old window goes with it.
Style is a separate choice. Casement windows crank open and seal tight, a common pick for bedrooms and living rooms. Awning windows hinge at the top and can stay open in light rain. Single and double hung windows keep a traditional look, sliders suit wide, short openings like basements, and bay and bow windows push a room outward.
Installation
A window that’s out of square, or has an unsealed gap behind the trim, will leak air and water no matter what glass is in it. That’s why we don’t hand installs to subcontractors.
Co-owner Steve McCue has installed windows and doors for 37 years and runs our install side. Sagging bays and out-of-level frames go through him.
On install day:
Why Fortress
The two owners measure and install. Here is what that means for your job.
Co-owner Steve Mercer does every estimate. He’s a former home inspector, so he looks at the whole opening, not just the width and height. You get one written price covering style, glass and install. No second number shows up once the old window is out.
Most warranties cover the part and leave you paying for the service call. The True Fortress Exclusive Lifetime Warranty covers the product and the labour. If a sealed unit fails, you don’t pay someone to swap it.
Every window, the front entry, the patio door, a 16-foot garage door and new eavestrough. All Canadian-made vinyl with Low-E 272 and argon, all installed by our crew. One contractor for the whole exterior. Read how that job came together.
Scarborough is home base, but the same crews work across the east end and Durham, including Pickering and Whitby. Our second office at 15 Pepin Court covers Barrie and area. See every service area.

FAQ
Low-E 272 is a thin coating on the glass that reflects heat back toward its source, so furnace heat stays inside in winter and summer heat stays out. Argon gas sealed between the panes slows heat transfer more than air does. Together they make the glass warmer to the touch and cut the cold drafts near old windows.
